Prescription Drug Plans (Part D)

Medicare Part D plans may help you save on the cost of your prescriptions and having predictable drug costs may help you manage your health care budget.

Benefits of AARP MedicareRx Plans

The AARP® MedicareRx Plans, insured through UnitedHealthcare®, offer simple, reliable protection to help you manage the cost of your prescription drugs. If you are eligible for Medicare, these plans are available to you, even if you’re not a member of AARP.

With three plans to choose from, UnitedHealthcare may have an AARP MedicareRx plan that fits your needs.

Considerations when choosing a Prescription Drug Plan

  • Select the plan that may provide the best coverage for your prescription drugs.
  • Using a preferred retail pharmacy will help insure you pay the plan’s lowest drug cost. With over 60,000 preferred retail locations, the AARP MedicareRx Preferred (PDP) and the AARP MedicareRx Saver Plus (PDP) plans offer savings at most pharmacies in the U.S. The AARP MedicareRx Walgreens (PDP) plan offers savings at over 8,100 Walgreens and Duane Reade locations. 1
  • Is home delivery of your prescription drugs important? A Preferred Mail Service Pharmacy could help you save time and money on your prescriptions.2 Pay as little as $0 for a 90-day supply of Tier 1 and Tier 2 medications (includes nearly all generic drugs and most commonly used brand name drugs) with home delivery through OptumRx, your plan’s preferred mail service pharmacy.3
  • Understand the total plan costs including copays, drug prices, monthly premiums and deductibles.

1Other pharmacies are available in our network.

2The Preferred Mail Service Pharmacy and Preferred Retail Pharmacy Network are not available for the AARP MedicareRx Preferred (PDP) plan in the following territories: Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands or Northern Mariana Islands.

3The $0 copay for a 90-day supply of Tier 1 and Tier 2 medications through OptumRx Mail Service Pharmacy is not available for the AARP MedicareRx Preferred (PDP) plan in American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and U. S. Virgin Islands. The $0 copay for a 90-day supply of Tier 2 medications through OptumRx Mail Service Pharmacy is not available for the AARP MedicareRx Walgreens (PDP) plan.

Plans are insured through UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company or one of its affiliated companies, a Medicare-approved Part D sponsor. Enrollment in the plan depends on the plan’s contract renewal with Medicare. UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company pays royalty fees to AARP for use of its intellectual property. These fees are used for the general purposes of AARP. You do not need to be an AARP member to enroll. AARP encourages you to consider your needs when selecting products and does not make specific product recommendations for individuals. United contracts directly with Walgreens for this plan; AARP and its affiliates are not parties to that contractual relationship.

Member may use any pharmacy in the network but may not receive preferred retail pharmacy pricing. Pharmacies in the Preferred Retail Pharmacy Network may not be available in all areas. Copays apply after deductible.

AARP MedicareRx Preferred (PDP) and AARP MedicareRx Saver Plus (PDP)’s pharmacy network includes limited lower-cost pharmacies in rural MT, NE, ND, SD and WY. AARP MedicareRx Walgreens (PDP)’s pharmacy network offers limited access to pharmacies with preferred cost sharing in urban ND; suburban CA, HI, ND, PA and rural AK, AR, HI, IA, ID, KS, MN, MO, MS, MT, NE, OK, PA, SD, TX, and WY. There are an extremely limited number of preferred cost share pharmacies in rural ND. The lower costs advertised in our plan materials for these pharmacies may not be available at the pharmacy you use. For up-to-date information about our network pharmacies, including whether there are any lower-cost preferred pharmacies in your area, please call us or consult the online pharmacy directory using the contact information that appears on the booklet cover.

OptumRx is an affiliate of UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company. You are not required to use OptumRx home delivery for a 90-day supply of your maintenance medication. $0 copay may be restricted to particular tiers, preferred medications, or home delivery prescriptions during the initial coverage phase and may not apply during the coverage gap or catastrophic stage.
